The Demoscene community amalgamates music, art, and algorithms, frequently pushing the boundaries of what we thought we could do with computer hardware. Originating in the software cracking scene in Europe in the 80s, programmers, artists, and musicians formed “crews” and organized “demoparties” where they would compete to create the most impressive audiovisual demos on computers such as the Commodore 64, Amiga, and eventually PC. Demoscene groups collectively pioneered chiptune music production tools, procedural content generation for graphics and games, and many real-time rendering techniques still used. This panel will be an intro to Demoscene and of course we will watch some clips from classic demos.
